What's for lunch on Christmas?? We bumped into this chinese restaurant place near the entrance of level 2 Marina Square, gave it a shot and we got lucky! This fujianese place is mm mm good. Service was just right. So we order the Cabbage Tofu soup, Pickled vege of the day. Stew Pork. Cold cut Pork Intestine. Specialty "MaZu" Mee Sua and Fried Duck with Yam Paste.

The cabbage tofu soup is sweet and tasty, definitely something to go back for. No msg. Tried and tested by my msg intolerance self. Pickled vege is crunchy and intestine is very light and yet flavorful. The Mee Sua was filled with ingredients such as seaweed, pork dried shrimps and peanuts etc.

It was overall a good experience. They have pretty exotic sounding food like squirrel fish??!..but we're not adventurous enough to try. Gonna recommend family and friends here. Reasonable pricing with good food! There's also some lobster (if u have more money to spare) and seafood dishes on the menu

Fried Duck with Yam Paste ($15.00)

Specialty MaZu Mee Sua ($6.00)

Stewed Pork Appetiser ($10.00)

Boiled Cabbage Tofu Soup ($18.00)

Braised Pig Intestine ($12.00)
Oops portion was supposed to be more, but we only
remember to take a pic after eating halfway. Haha

Pickled Cucumber ($7.00)
Same same, we only took the pic after eating halfway.

The place was fully packed when we went there, but then it was Christmas Day. Probably will bring our family there to try it out another day.

PRICING : at least $20 to $50 per person (really depending on what you ordered)

Since we got a really great room at Ritz Carlton to celebrate Christmas Eve, we decided we wanted to have a great dinner too. But every decent restaurant in the vicinity were fully booked, hence we were left with Waraku as our last choice.

Service was really not worth mentioning.... When we called to book the restaurant, the person who answered was far from friendly and only allowed table booking latest 7pm. You gotta walk in and try your luck if u decide to come after 7pm.

Staff greeting us at the entrance were enthusiatic but thats all... Gave us only 1 menu for a table of 4 people and stared at us blankly when we asked for extra menus... didnt clear our table even when desserts was being served..Couldnt answer our questions about the menu etc.... Basically service was really slow, but I guess we shouldnt complain much since it was Christmas Eve.

The variety of food was great, had a hard time deciding what to eat. We tried the Gindara Teriyaki, Unagi Futomaki, Sakura set (Scallop Udon in cream sauce and Salmon roe with egg on rice), Unagi Kabayaki, Salmon Sashimi, Uni Sashimi, Umeshiso Bukkake (Cold Soba with plum and seaweed), Crab Seiro (Steam crab with vegetables) and Hokkai Don (Salmon and Squid on Rice)..... yeah we ate alot.. lol

Food was so so, not fantastic but not lousy either... Worth mentioning are probably the Uni Sashimi, Sakura set. Uni was quite fresh and sweet. The Sakura set was quite impressive since the bowl was so huge. haha. Udon was quite chewy nice in the cream sauce, probably gotta add some chilli powder since sauce was quite bland.

Unagi Kabayaki ($16.80)

Uni Sashimi ($28.00)

Sakura Set ($18.80)

Crab Seiro ($12.80)

Hokkai Don ($15.00)

Umeshiro Bukkake ($9.80)

Unagi Futomaki ($9.80)

Overall this meal wasn't memorable and not really good. But might consider trying another outlet a few months or many months later.

So we decided to try the kampong artsy area aka Dempsey this week. I've heard abt PS cafe, white rabbit, Oosh etc and white rabbit is our first stop. It's an old haunted church with an anglo-chinese feel to it. This place is unaccesible! you gotta have a car or lucky to catch a taxi driver with sense of direction (mine wasn't).

We went for the brunch which started around 11.30am to 2.30pm.

Big entrance with high cellings. Simplistic deco. Food is straightforward western comfort food. I have to say this chef must be an eggs lover. He dedicated a good portion of his brunch menu to egg dishes. Ranging from the eggs benedict, lobster scrambled egg, mars bar souffle and even the warm spinach salad came with a dollap of poached egg. We were kinda egged out.

We wish there is a lil more varieties with the choice of main ingredient. The only egg-less dish was roast spring chicken. This place is pricey (approximately $50 per person including drinks) and we seriously didnt order alot.

Lobster scrambled eggs
Roast of the Day

Eggs Benedict

Mars Bar Souffle

Good ambience and service was generally okay. But i would be worried if it's dark and when there isn't enough customers, because of its "haunted" history. Overall, a good experience. Will return for the souffle.

Some other pictures of the place.....
